1984 Land Rover Series III 88″ Truck cab

Pedro Santos - Portugal - 1984 Land Rover Series III 88 Truck cab - seen here at our permises in Huddersfield

When Pedro Santos contacted us from Portugal, he explained that he wanted an “English” Land Rover, and that meant that it had to come from England !. He browsed our web site, and found the pictures (left and right) of a local vehicle that we had for sale. I explained that I had known the vehicle for about 5 years, and it had been in daily use. On the basis of the two pictures, and our reputation, Pedro made the necessary arrangements to fly over, and  with his son and daughter as travelling companions – drive the Series III back home. Above is a picture of Pedro with his Son, Daughter, and “new” Land Rover. Below is a letter and some photographs recently received from Pedro:

Dear Mark,

It is already quite some time since we were last in touch, but you know how things are in the south of Europe and only three weeks ago did I get the Portuguese registration number for A131JWU, that happens to be 24-36-PT.

As promised, I am sending you some pictures, taken in different positions. You can use them for advertising purposes if you wish to.

As you can see, I removed the cabin cover, bought in a junk yard a spare wheel bonnet support, had it sand blasted and fitted it on the hood and installed a second tow ball in the front bumper that is used to facilitate manoeuvres when towing the boat. I have not done any other mechanical or electrical alterations.

The car stays permanently in the Algarve where I used it for the local go around small trips during week-ends and holidays. From April till September it will be “top less” (usual attire for girls in beaches of the region) but for the winter I would prefer to have a canvas top instead of the one she came with. Therefore I would ask you please if you can supply the pipe frame and the canvas top and side covers (that I would prefer to be separated as I might have the top only sometimes). I would like to keep the original pipe frame that I suppose will fit into the four round holes in the after part (cargo compartment) and in the windscreen (when up). Can you supply these parts? If yes, please let me know costs and freight expenses to Lisboa (by the cheapest solution).

Best regards

Pedro Santos
