The first thing I would say to any prospective purchaser, is please spend a few minutes reading the description, and studying the pictures - This car will not be for everyone - BUT will appeal to anyone wanting the most useable 2 door Range Rover available.

It is not often that I am lost for words, and I am struggling to know how to begin to describe this fascinating car - But as always - lets begin at the beginning.

Manufactured 25th April 1980 - This Range Rover was originally registered as VDU 141X and was dispatched to Leyland Car's H.Q. in Coventry and registered to "Rover Triumph British Leyland UK Ltd".

It was the car that Land Rover transported by trailer to exhibit as a static display at County Shows.

It remained unregistered until 25th August 1981 - when it was sold through a Land Rover Dealership to the only private owner.

It was delivered to him by trailer, with 114 miles on the clock.

To say that this Range Rover has a full and complete service record, and that it has had a fastidious owner is a serious understatement.

On receiving the car, the new owner immediately changed the oil and filter, and during his ownership, this has been followed by a further 63 oil and filter changes (every 4 to 7 months - on average every 700 miles). There is a sheet showing every oil and filter change, including the date and mileage PLUS the time interval and distance traveled since the previous change !

There are also record cards showing EVERY date of every fill up with fuel (yes seriously !)

There are also 66 service book entries - yes I know that averages every 700 miles !

How the heck do you spend £25,000 on a car in only 45,000 miles ? ? ?

Well, as I said at the beginning this is a car for someone who wants the appeal and character of a 2 Door Classic Range Rover, but also wants the power and performance of a later classic, PLUS the handling of the CSK Range Rover.

31st August 1991:

(when the car had covered some 28,000 miles) a "take out" 3.5 efi engine (done 13,000 miles- so less than the Range Rover itself) was purchased from OVERFINCH and installed by APB Trading Ltd at a cost in excess of £4,000. Obviously there is paperwork and bills to substantiate this work.

5th december 1993:

(car has now covered 31,000 miles) a "take out" 4 speed ZF Automatic Gearbox and viscous transfer box (both covered 4500 miles) was supplied and fitted again by APB Trading Ltd - Again all paperwork is included.

Also during ownership CSK upper door frames have been fitted (to enable the later mirrors to be used), and CSK anti roll bars.

Want a tilt and slide sunroof ? - yes it has one of these too - but the only "proper" way to achieve this is to replace the roof - cost £2,800

There are receipts for all work that has been carried out, you are welcome to come and inspect the car and the paperwork - but allow a couple of hours.

They preceed the "Pre-production" vehicles (Mostly YVB registrations - of which Land Rover Centre are proud to own "YVB 151H - production Chassis No 1), and the press vehicles "NXC" registrations.

This vehicle was "lost" for many years, and found in 1995, and totally restored with over 1000 hours work over the following 3 years by a well known Land Rover / Range Rover historian, and is 80% original.

Being a prototype it has many "odd" features, such as 1969 dated "Sundym" glass, AND smooth glove box.

This car was hand built, and all the body panels were hand made

It was used for testing purposes and in 1970 in France, Switzerland and hot climate testing in Morocco.

It was also used as a back up vehicle on press launch during may / June 1970.

Also went to spain in 1971 for further hot climate testing.

It remained in Land Rover UK's ownership, until being sold off in 1972.

This is a very rare opportunity to own a piece of iconic motoring history, and would take pride of place in any collection.
