SXF 588 – 1957 Land Rover Series 1 – X Home Office
Originally delivered to the Home office
Original Registration/Log book showing date of original registration of 15th May 1957 to Secretary of State, Home Office. It appeared to enter private ownership in the 70’s.
The remarkable preservation, originality and sparing use are probably as a result of a ‘charmed’ life and dry storage during its years of ‘serving’ our country..
Mileage is showing circa 39,775 and its impressive condition of chassis etc would suggest this may well be correct, although naturally this cannot be verified.
The previous owner acquired this historical land Rover around 4 years ago, and subsequently engaged the services of a professional ‘old school’ land Rover mechanic to commission a sympathetic refurbishment/recommissioning, retaining originality wherever possible.
Refurbishment works have included the steering linkages, clutch, brakes, seats, canvass cover etc..etc.. No welding was carried out during the refurbishment, nor is any necessary due to the highly impressive state of preservation.
Also a replacement (correct 1957 year) engine has been recently fitted. This engine has been partially refurbished and work includes replacement piston rings, engine thrust washers, main bearings, big end shells, distributor etc. The vehicle drives nicely as it should, with light steering etc and the engine runs and ‘pulls’ well, now just requiring a gentle ‘running in period’.
Sold as an on-gong project for someone to take on, to use and improve as they see fit
